To all who are spiritually weary and seek rest;

to all who struggle and desire victory;

to all who sin and need a Savior;

to all who are strangers and want fellowship;

to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness;

and to whoever will come—

this church opens wide her doors

and offers her welcome in the name

of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The North Carolina Offering for Older Adults/Week of Prayer emphasis will be held February 3-10, 2008 throughout Baptist churches in our state. The funds raised go toward the underwriting costs for residents who cannot pay for the care they receive. Baptist Retirement Homes of North Carolina was founded in 1951 and currently has five retirement communities throughout the state. Although this is not an offering that you have a special envelope for in your box of envelopes, we have placed envelopes in the pew racks for those who would like to participate. Our church currently supports the Baptist Retirement Homes through our quarterly giving of Designated Missions.

Children’s Choir will meet from 4 – 5 p.m. this month due to January Bible Study.

We are exploring the possibility of the Youth Adults in the 18-25 age group going on a mission trip this summer. We invite all young adults in this age group to attend Kenneth Cox’s Sunday School Class and express your interest in being a part of this team, where you would like to go, and share with the group some of your fund-raising ideas. It is important that a decision be made soon so that plans can be made.

An Olive Garden Gift Card that still has a balance on it has been turned in to the church office. Please see Sandra Collins if it belongs to you.

From Our Pastor:

 God Moves in Mysterious Ways

 When facing difficult times we have all had someone tell us “well, you know God moves in mysterious ways.”  Many people think that the phrase comes from the Bible itself.  It does not; however, it does come from a beautiful hymn written by William Cowper.  Cowper was a friend of John Newton, the writer of the hymn “Amazing Grace.”  He lived during the 1700’s in England . He was quite a gifted poet who suffered from terrible bouts of deep depression. Those experiences uniquely prepared him to write profoundly rich hymns that serve to strengthen our hand in the midst of dark, dark nights of the soul.  Read carefully, slowly, meditatively, this hymn from Cowper and let God work in your heart.

God moves in a mysterious way

his wonders to perform;

He plants his footsteps in the sea,

and rides upon the storm.

Deep in unfathomable mines

of never-failing skill

He treasures up his bright designs,

and works his sovereign will.

Ye fearful saints, fresh courage take;

the clouds ye so much dread

Are big with mercy, and shall break

in blessings on your head.

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense,

but trust him for his grace;

Behind a frowning providence

he hides a smiling face.

His purposes will ripen fast,

unfolding every hour;

The bud may have a bitter taste,

but sweet will be the flow’r.

Blind unbelief is sure to err,

and scan his work in vain;

God is his own interpreter,

and he will make it plain.

Yes, God does work in mysterious ways, but in His time he will make it all plain.

Keep Trusting God,

Pastor David
